Biography

Daniel is a partner in our Disputes and Investigations group.

An experienced commercial litigator, Daniel has significant experience in regulatory investigations, class actions and other complex disputes.

He regularly advises domestic and international clients in relation to large-scale litigation, commercial disputes and regulatory investigations, including navigating the early stages of a potential disputes or regulatory issues. He advises clients in all sectors, with particular expertise in financial services.

Experience

Daniel’s experience includes advising:

  • Block Earner in landmark ASIC “test case” relating to the complexities of applying existing regulations to evolving crypto technologies.

  • Westpac in relation to separate investigations by ASIC and APRA with respect to allegations of breaches of anti-money laundering laws.

  • Westpac in relation to class action proceedings which arose from proceedings commenced by AUSTRAC.

  • Multiple clients in disputes and regulatory matters in relation to cryptocurrency services.

  • TAL in relation to an ASIC investigation and proceedings regarding claims handling.

  • Domestic bank in relation to ASIC’s ‘fees for no service’ investigations concerning the financial advice business.

  • Domestic bank in relation to ASIC’s on-site ‘close and continuous monitoring’ program concerning corporate governance, internal dispute resolution, breach reporting, and internal audit.

  • Multiple clients on regulatory and contractual issues arising from Australia’s sanctions against Russia.

  • Westpac on its response to the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry.
