Alex Tonkin

Biography

Alex is special counsel in our Banking and Projects group.

He brings a wealth of experience in acquisition and leveraged finance, corporate finance, real estate finance, project finance and restructuring.  

He excels in handling complex domestic and international transactions for borrowers, sponsors and lenders across a wide array of sectors. His extensive portfolio reflects his capacity to manage high-profile projects and restructurings with a keen strategic insight.

Experience

Alex’s experience includes advising:

  • Sigma Healthcare on the financing aspects of their ground-breaking merger with Chemist Warehouse Group.    

  • The mandated lead arrangers, underwriters and bookrunners and other lenders on the $450 million highly complex refinancing of casino operator The Star Entertainment Group’s debt facilities.

  • The Mandated Lead Arrangers, Underwriters and Bookrunners and other Lenders on Brookfield’s $1.45 billion refinancing of the corporate debt facilities for retirement village operator Aveo Group.

  • Viva Energy Australia on the financing aspects of its $1.15 billion acquisition of the OTR Group.

  • National Australia Bank as Super Senior Lender for Arrotex’s $1.26 billion unitranche refinancing.

  • The mandated lead arrangers, underwriters and bookrunners on EIG’s joint bid with Brookfield for Origin Energy and the acquisition of assets from Tokyo Gas.

  • TPG Capital on the acquisition financing for its $1.8 billion acquisition of InvoCare.

  • Colinton Capital Partners on its acquisition of Midas Healthcare and the associated acquisition financing.

  • Bloch on the refinancing of its debt facilities for a secured multi-currency borrowing base facility agreement provided by HSBC.

  • The lenders for TGE’s asset based (equipment) financing and the associated intercreditor arrangements.

  • AustralianSuper and Singtel on the financing aspects of their joint $1.9 billion acquisition of the Australia Tower Network mobile tower business, followed by the acquisition of the Axicom business for $3.58 billion.

  • ENGIE on its bid for Spark Renewables and the associated acquisition financing package.
