Gilbert + Tobin are pleased to announce that our Pro Bono lawyers team has taken out the Pro Bono Partnership Award at the 2017 Justice Awards for a unique project delivered in collaboration with Moree’s Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) and the Dharriwaa Elders Group.

The Housing Repairs Project helps to improve housing conditions for Aboriginal people in north-western NSW through assisting with tenancy and housing repair issues. Through the Project our lawyers act for multiple tenants of the same housing provider in a clinic model. The project has been a great success with more than $127,000 in rental arrears being written off in the past 12 months, 38 tenants receiving assistance and three housing providers in Moree and Walgett finishing large scale repairs and maintenance work.

“We are thrilled to win this award with our project partners from Dharriwaa Elders Group and ASL who we have worked alongside to achieve these positive outcomes for communities in need,” said Anne Cregan, Partner in the Gilbert + Tobin Pro Bono Team.
