Gilbert + Tobin has taken out the title of National Law Firm of the Year at the AsiaLaw and Benchmark Litigation Dispute Resolution Awards 2018 held in Hong Kong last night.

The award recognises G+T's strength and depth in handling complex and contentious matters. In addition to the National Law Firm of the Year award win, G+T partners Crispian Lynch and Colleen Platford were nominated for Disputes Star of the Year.

In 2018, the team was chosen to represent Westpac on the complex, contentious and high-profile Banking and Financial Services Royal Commission. This follows the successful settlement of two nine-figure outcomes for our clients (BrisConnections and Lowes), acting as the Counsel Assisting the Royal Commission into the Protection and Detention of Children in the Northern Territory, as well as securing high-profile and important wins for Reliance Rail and Anglo American. In 2016 G+T also obtained the largest commercial pay-out for misleading and deceptive conduct in Australian corporate history.

The team is rapidly growing to meet client demand with the additions of leading litigation partner Richard Harris, who joined as the Disputes + Investigations practice group head (former head of Banking and Financial Services Sector, Allens); and Denis O’Brien, now G+T’s Government Legal Counsel.

Commenting on the award, disputes practice leader Richard Harris said, "The Gilbert + Tobin Disputes and Investigations team continues to go from strength to strength. We remain focused on providing our clients with strategic and commercial assistance on complex and substantial disputes. We are pleased and humbled with the AsiaLaw and Benchmark Ligation recognition of those efforts."
